THE EVERYDAY RE-IMAGINED

LANDSCAPE

I observed random textures and shapes on walls, they appeared to have meaningful interpretations as landscapes; pareidolia was at work. By adding sympathetic images surreal landscapes were revealed; narratives that belie their origins.

Unclad construction concrete wall in its raw state forms the background of distant hills and ploughed fields foreground.Three real trees and pale clouds complete the landscape. A small crumbling section revealing aggregate looks like a flock of birds in the sky.
CONCRETE - MOUNTAINS
A wall with pale beige cracked plaster forms the background. A horizon of a grey mountains is the illusion given where some plaster has fallen off. In the foreground the plaster is dirty and peeling; completing the illusion of foreground rocky outcrops. Clouds, a tree, a flock of birds escaping a hawk complete the landscape.
PLASTER - FLIGHT
Side wall of an old village house in France, the plaster crumbling places to reveal rough brickwork beneath. Overlaid on this ‘canvas’ perfectly blending in is a conical brick construction with overgrown weeds on top. A swooping Hawk disturbs a flock of crows who take flight.
RENDER - CASTLE HUNT
Beige painted concrete rendered wall with grey cemeted repaired patches the original wall background gives the feeling a canyon with a gorge running through the middle. There are trees and clouds and a small grazing deer looking to front added.
WALL - FOSSIL CANYON
An ancient stone block wall with a disintegrating rusty rain down-pipe sets the background, at the pavement level, to a third the way up. green lichen ad mosses grow over black staining. The pipe is like a tree trunk the green area a forest. Tree Roots are added growing into the paving, and real trees to to suggested forest.

BLOCK - ROOTED

Black staining from city grime and pollutants mark a limestone coloured rendered wall. Some white paint has been daubed over a part of the ‘scene’ with a broad brush. After some photoshop manipulation the scene becomes a nigh-time landscape looking over a golden corn field to a row of silhouetted black houses.

RENDER - WHEAT FIELD
